good to know before you plan

August is the top of the market in Seminyak. Every evening delivers the sunset, every beach club runs at capacity, and the restaurants are doing the best business of their year.

Seven days at around $190 to $300 per person is a serious sum, and Independence Day falls in the middle of the month. The weather is not in question here, the availability is. If you want this exact version of Bali, August provides it perfectly and charges accordingly. We would put five days into Seminyak at these prices and the other two somewhere quieter.

Bali in August: A 7-Day Seminyak and Canggu Itinerary

August is the top of the market in Seminyak. Every evening delivers the sunset, every beach club runs at capacity, and the restaurants are doing the best business of their year. The weather does not fail. Neither does the crowd.

This is the month where the difference between a planned trip and an improvised one is largest. Front-row daybeds are gone weeks in advance, the restaurants people fly here for are reserved well ahead, and the coast road north in the late afternoon is close to gridlocked. August in Seminyak is excellent and entirely dependent on you having booked it properly.

The busiest week of the Bali year, and it still works

August

Week 4

day by day

Seminyak, and stay there. In August the Canggu road is not worth the hours it takes, and Uluwatu needs a full day leaving before seven rather than an afternoon.

  • Day 1: Arrive, check in, straight down for sunset.

  • Day 2: Full beach club day, booked weeks in advance.

  • Day 3: Spa in the morning, then the dinner you reserved before you flew.

  • Day 4: Uluwatu day trip, leaving before seven and making a full day of the peninsula.

  • Day 5: Tanah Lot at sunset, leaving very early for the road west.

  • Day 6: A deliberately quiet day at the hotel, or a cooking class if the pool is crowded.

  • Day 7: Slow morning, late checkout, airport with generous margin.

  • If 17 August falls in your week, keep that day loose. Independence Day brings flag-raising, village games and parades across the island, and it is better watched than scheduled around.

August is booked months ahead. Start now

Book the room as early as you possibly can, because August is the most fully booked month of the year in Seminyak and what is left late is expensive and poorly located. Beach clubs and restaurants need reservations weeks ahead, not calls on the day. A car is essential for Uluwatu and Tanah Lot in August, but both need very early starts, so arrange a driver in advance and treat the published journey times as optimistic. Three links below.

frequently asked questions

What is the weather like in Seminyak in August?

Peak dry season and the most dependable of the year. Clear skies, low humidity, temperatures around 27 to 31 degrees and rain rare enough to plan every evening around the sunset. August is also the windiest month on this coast, which keeps the heat comfortable and puts a chop on the water.

Is August the most expensive month in Bali?

It is the most expensive of the regular season, alongside July, and rivalled only by the Christmas and New Year fortnight. Accommodation, beach club minimum spends and airport transfers all sit at their annual peak. September brings prices down noticeably while keeping most of the dry-season weather.

What is there to do in Bali on 17 August?

Independence Day is celebrated across the island with morning flag-raising ceremonies, village games and competitions, and parades in the larger towns. It is a local celebration rather than a tourist attraction, which is precisely why it is worth seeing. Some offices and sites adjust their hours, so check anything you had planned for that day.
