good to know before you plan

May opens the run of clear evenings that lasts through September, which for Seminyak matters more than the daytime weather. Sunset is the fixed point of every day here, and in May it starts being reliable.

It is also the last shoulder-season pricing, around $100 to $180 per person for five days, and the point where booking a beach club becomes necessary rather than optional. Five days is the honest sweet spot for Seminyak on its own. We would give the fifth evening to Uluwatu rather than a fourth sunset on the same stretch of sand.

Bali in May: A 5-Day Seminyak and Canggu Itinerary

Five days is the sweet spot for one region of Bali, and this plan spends all of it on Seminyak and Canggu. May opens the dry season, reliably clear and still ahead of the crowds.

You base yourself in Seminyak and keep it simple: a full beach club day, a morning up to Canggu, a spa afternoon, and the restaurants this strip is known for. The sunsets do the rest, when the season gives them to you.

day by day

One base in Seminyak for the five days, with at most a single morning up to Canggu. Short trips here are better spent settling in than shuttling around.

  • Day 1: Arrive, check in, straight down for sunset.

  • Day 2: Full beach club day.

  • Day 3: Canggu. Berawa beach and the cafes, back before the afternoon traffic.

  • Day 4: Tanah Lot at sunset, then your best dinner of the trip.

  • Day 5: Slow morning, late checkout, airport.

May is the last easy month on the strip

Book the room before June, because Seminyak's rates rise sharply once high season starts and the same property will cost noticeably more. Beach clubs can still be arranged on the day in May, though weekends are worth a call ahead and minimum spends apply at the larger ones. A car earns its cost here for the Tanah Lot sunset and the Canggu day, both of which are slow and unpleasant by scooter in traffic. Three links below.

frequently asked questions

What is the weather like in Seminyak in May?

Dry and warm, at around 27 to 31 degrees. May opens the dry season, so rain is rare and brief and humidity is comfortable. For this coast the important part is the sky at the end of the day: May sunsets are consistent, which makes the whole evening economy of the strip work as intended.

When is the best time for sunsets in Bali?

May through September, with the dry season delivering the most consistent clear evenings. July and August have the best odds and the biggest crowds at every west-facing viewpoint. May and September give you nearly the same sky with far more room, which is why they are the months to target if the sunset is the reason you are coming.

How do you get from Seminyak to Canggu?

By car or scooter, and the distance is short while the time is unpredictable. The coastal road between them is narrow and gets badly congested through the afternoon and evening, so a twenty-minute drive can easily become an hour in high season. Go in the morning and come back before the afternoon build-up.
