What Indian Travellers Need for a Bali Visa in 2026

Indian passport holders do need a visa for Bali. India sits on Indonesia's Visitor Visa list, not its visa exemption list, so every traveller arranges one before flying or pays for it on arrival. The 30 day Visitor Visa costs IDR 500,000 and allows a stay of 30 days. We set out what you need, what it really costs, and the steps to finish before you leave home.

Why Indian Travellers Get Conflicting Answers

Search this question and the results disagree with each other. Insurance pages, airline pages and booking sites all cover the Bali visa as a footnote to something they are selling, and several still say Indians can enter without a visa, or that a visa is only needed for stays beyond 30 days. Neither is right, and immigration is not a rule you can negotiate at the counter.

The second source of confusion is the wording on the visa itself. A Visitor Visa carries a validity period and a period of stay, and they are different numbers. Validity is the window in which you must enter Indonesia. The period of stay is how long you may remain once you have landed. Reading one as the other is how people end up planning a trip around the wrong date.

Check These Before You Apply

  • Confirm your passport is valid for at least six months from the date you arrive in Indonesia.

  • Check your card works abroad, because the visa portal takes only Mastercard, Visa or JCB credit cards.

  • Budget IDR 500,000 for the visa and a separate IDR 150,000 for the Bali tourist levy.

  • Apply for one visa per traveller, including infants and children listed in a parent's passport.

  • Have a passport photo and a working email address saved before you start the application.

  • Submit the arrival card as well, because it is required separately from the visa.

The Visa Most Indian Travellers Use

India is named on Indonesia's list of countries eligible to apply for the Visitor Visa, the document usually called the e-VOA. It costs IDR 500,000, is single entry, and allows a stay of 30 days for tourism, visiting family, business meetings, goods purchasing or transit. You can apply in advance on the official Indonesian e-Visa site, or pay for the same visa at the counter after you land at Ngurah Rai. Every traveller needs their own visa, including infants and children travelling on a parent's passport.

The part that catches Indian applicants out is the payment. The portal accepts only Mastercard, Visa or JCB credit cards, the card must have 3D Secure and be open to international transactions, and once you reach the confirmation page you have 120 minutes to complete payment before the request expires. The card does not have to be in your own name, so a family member can pay. Enable international use on the card before you begin rather than discovering the block halfway through. It is the step we see trip people up most often.

Two dates on the visa matter and they are not the same. The validity period is 90 days from issue, which is the window in which you must enter Indonesia, while the period of stay is the 30 days you may remain after arrival. Immigration also warns that many sites offer to obtain the visa for a service charge and are not connected to the Indonesian government, so apply on the official portal and keep a copy of the visa on your phone in case the system is slow at the checkpoint.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Bali visa free for Indians?

No. India appears on Indonesia's list of countries eligible to apply for a Visitor Visa, not on a visa exemption list, so Indian passport holders pay for a visa either before travelling or on arrival.

The Visitor Visa is IDR 500,000, and the Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000 is charged separately. Both are set in rupiah, so the rupee amount moves with the exchange rate on the day you pay.

No. You need either a visa arranged in advance or the visa bought on arrival, and paying by card at the airport counter attracts whatever fee your own bank applies to foreign transactions.

The Visitor Visa application itself asks for a passport valid for six months, a photograph, an email address and a valid credit card. No minimum bank balance is listed among those requirements.

Immigration advises contacting its visa support desk rather than starting a new request or paying again, because duplicate payments made after a failed transaction are not refunded.

Sort the Rest of the Trip

With the visa settled, the decisions that shape the first days are where you are staying, what you have booked, and how you will get around an island that is bigger than it looks. The options below cover each of those.

Where To Stay?

The visa form asks where you will stay in Indonesia, so book your first nights early. Compare hotels and villas and apply with an address ready.

Things To Do

Bali fills its best days quickly, so plan them while the visa is processed. Browse tours, temple visits and day trips before the dates are gone.

Rent A Car

Distances in Bali run further than the map suggests. Compare car hire, check what your licence requires, and have transport ready when you land.
