April is the month Kuta stops apologising. The rain has largely gone, the beach has cleaned itself up, the water is warm and the swell is steady.
It is also the last of the low-season pricing at around $130 to $240 per person for the week, before rates climb in May and rise sharply through June. A full week works here in April in a way it does not in high season, because the strip is busy without being saturated and you are not paying a premium for it. We rate April as the best value week on this coast, and it is not a close call.

April is the month Kuta stops apologising. The rain has largely gone, the beach has cleaned itself up, the water is warm and the swell is steady. Everything that is unpleasant about this stretch in February has resolved, and everything that is unpleasant about it in August has not yet started.
That combination lasts about six weeks. From May the rates climb, from June the strip fills, and by July you are booking a hotel three months out and queueing at Waterbom. April is the last month where you can decide to come to Kuta with a fortnight's notice and get a good room at a low-season price.

The last cheap month with reliable weather
Book the room first. April is the final month of low-season rates in Kuta, and the difference between an April and a July booking for the same hotel is substantial, so compare now rather than later. Surf lessons and Waterbom can still be arranged a couple of days ahead this month.
