good to know before you plan

February has the lowest prices and the fewest people of any month in Kuta, around $80 to $160 per person across the five days. If a quiet strip and a cheap room are the priority, nothing else on the calendar competes.

It is also the wettest month, with rain that can settle in for a whole afternoon, and the beach carries the same debris problem as January. Inland Bali is at its greenest, which is a good argument for using a Kuta base and driving out. We rate February for value and for the surf, and we would not build a beach holiday around it.

Bali in February: A 5-Day Kuta and Legian Itinerary

Five days is the sweet spot for one region of Bali, and this plan spends all of it on Kuta and Legian. February is the wettest, quietest, cheapest month, with rain that can settle in for the afternoon.

You stay on the Kuta and Legian strip and let it come to you: the beach and the surf in the mornings, the water park on a quieter day, Jalan Legian after dark, and one run south to Uluwatu for the cliffs and the Kecak dance. Everything else is a walk away.

day by day

One hotel in Kuta or Legian, everything on foot, with a single afternoon out to Uluwatu. Five days keeps you on the strip without it wearing thin.

  • Day 1: Arrive, check in, straight out.

  • Day 2: Surf lesson at first light, sleep in the afternoon, Jalan Legian after dark.

  • Day 3: Waterbom Bali, empty this month, no queues.

  • Day 4: Uluwatu for the temple and Kecak, leaving early for the wet-season traffic.

  • Day 5: Checkout, airport, extra time for traffic.

The cheapest week of the year on the busiest beach

Room first. February is the bottom of Kuta's yearly pricing, and the difference between a basic hotel and a beachfront one is smaller now than it will ever be, so compare properly before you book. Surf lessons and Waterbom can be arranged a day ahead rather than weeks, though the early surf slot is worth reserving because the water is cleanest then. A car is barely needed here, which is the point, but you will want one for Uluwatu. Three links below.

frequently asked questions

What is the weather like in Kuta in February?

February is Bali's wettest month. Expect 27 to 31 degrees, high humidity, and rain that can settle in for longer than the brief afternoon showers of the dry season. Mornings are still usually the clearest part of the day. The sea is warm and the surf is messy but perfectly workable for beginners.

Is it worth going to Bali in February?

It depends entirely on what you came for. February has the lowest prices and the fewest people of any month, and inland Bali is at its greenest. It also has the worst beach weather of the year. For nightlife, food, surf lessons and value it is a good month. For sunbathing it is the worst one.

Where should you learn to surf in Bali?

Kuta and Legian, for a first lesson. The whole stretch has a sand bottom rather than reef, the waves reform close to shore, and instructors and board rental operate directly off the beach. Legian is usually less crowded in the water than Kuta itself. Once you can stand up, the reef breaks further south are the next step.
