good to know before you plan
June is when this coast switches into its best surf conditions of the year. The dry-season wind comes up, the swell organises, and Kuta and Legian go from good beginner beaches to genuinely good waves.
If you surf, that is the reason to take the week now rather than in April. Rates climb week by week through June, around $160 to $270 per person for seven days, so the earlier your dates fall inside the month the better. We book the first half of June for this trip whenever the calendar allows it.
Bali in June: A 7-Day Kuta and Legian Itinerary
June is when this coast switches into its best surf conditions of the year. The dry-season wind comes up, the swell organises, and Kuta and Legian go from good beginner beaches to genuinely reliable ones. The water is clean, the sand is clean, and the sun is a given.
So is the crowd. From June the strip fills, room rates climb week by week, and Waterbom starts having queues at the popular slides. It is not August yet, and June is noticeably more comfortable than July, but the version of Kuta where you decide things on the morning is over until October.
Peak surf conditions arrive, and so does everybody else
June
Week 3

day by day
One hotel, everything on foot. In high season, being able to walk to the beach and the bars is worth more than any room upgrade, because the traffic is the worst part of Kuta in June.
Day 1: Arrive, check in, sunset on the beach.
Day 2: Surf lesson at first light. June swell is the best of the year for learning.
Day 3: Waterbom Bali on a weekday, at opening. From June the queues are real.
Day 4: Slow day. Massage, long lunch, Jalan Legian after dark.
Day 5: Uluwatu for the temple and the Kecak dance. Leave early, the road south is busy now.
Day 6: Second surf lesson, beach afternoon, best dinner of the trip.
Day 7: Last swim, checkout, airport with extra time for traffic.

Peak surf, so book early
Book the room first and do it soon, because Kuta rates climb week by week through June and availability at the better-located hotels tightens fast. Activities now need real notice: reserve the surf lessons and buy Waterbom tickets ahead rather than at the gate. A car matters less here than anywhere else since the strip is walkable, which is precisely why Kuta handles high season better than most areas, but you will want one for Uluwatu. Three links below.
frequently asked questions
What is the weather like in Kuta in June?
Dry, sunny and increasingly windy. June is the dry season proper, so rain is uncommon and days are clear. Temperatures hold around 27 to 31 degrees. The dry-season wind starts building on this coast during June, which improves the surf and makes a beach umbrella harder work.
When is the best time to surf in Bali?
The dry season, roughly May to September, produces the most consistent swell on the west and south coasts where Kuta, Legian and Uluwatu sit. June through August are the strongest months. For a first lesson the wet season still works perfectly well and is far less crowded, so beginners have more flexibility than experienced surfers do.
Is Waterbom Bali busy in high season?
Yes, noticeably from June and heavily in July and August. Queues at the larger slides build through the morning, so arriving at opening is the single most useful thing you can do. Weekdays are quieter than weekends, and booking tickets ahead saves time at the gate rather than in the park.
