good to know before you plan
September is the best month in Kuta and it is not a close call. Dry-season weather holds after the July and August crowds have gone home, and rates fall steadily through the month, landing around $110 to $185 per person for five days.
That combination, peak conditions with prices coming off the peak, is the one everybody says they want and then books in July anyway. The beach is clean, the surf is still working, and the strip is lively without the queue. We would put September first for anyone able to travel outside the school holidays.
Bali in September: A 5-Day Kuta and Legian Itinerary
Five days is the sweet spot for one region of Bali, and this plan spends all of it on Kuta and Legian. September holds dry-season weather after the July and August crowds have gone home.
You stay on the Kuta and Legian strip and let it come to you: the beach and the surf in the mornings, the water park on a quieter day, Jalan Legian after dark, and one run south to Uluwatu for the cliffs and the Kecak dance. Everything else is a walk away.

August weather, September price
Compare hotel prices before you book, because September rates fall week by week as high season unwinds and the second half of the month is meaningfully cheaper than the first. Surf lessons and Waterbom are easy to arrange a couple of days out again. A car is only needed for the Uluwatu run, and September traffic makes that an easy afternoon rather than the ordeal it is in August. Three links below.
frequently asked questions
What is the weather like in Kuta in September?
Dry and warm, with the wind easing from its August peak. Rain remains uncommon and skies are clear most days, at around 27 to 31 degrees. The lighter wind cleans up the surf and makes the beach considerably more comfortable than in July and August, when an umbrella is a struggle.
When is the cheapest time to visit Bali with good weather?
September, and to a lesser extent April and October. September combines dry-season conditions with prices falling from the August peak, which is the best value on the calendar. The genuinely cheapest months, February and November, come with the worst weather. April and October sit between the two.
Is Kuta quieter in September?
Yes, noticeably, and it becomes quieter as the month goes on. The northern hemisphere and Australian school holidays end in late August and early September, which is the single biggest factor in Kuta's crowd levels. By the second half of the month the beach, the water park and the bars are all comfortably below peak.
