good to know before you plan

July is the month Bali sells to the world, and for good reason. The weather is as close to guaranteed as it gets: dry days, low humidity, clear skies from morning to night.

A week costs around $180 to $300 per person, at or near the annual peak, and accommodation wants booking two to three months out. Central Ubud is congested and the well-known sites are full. Seven days is long enough to work around that by going early and going wide. We would stay out in the valley rather than in the centre, which is the single change that makes July here bearable.

Bali in July: A 7-Day Ubud Itinerary in Peak Dry Season

July is the month Bali sells to the world, and for good reason. The weather is as close to guaranteed as it gets: dry days, low humidity, clear skies from morning to night, and evenings in the valley cool enough to be genuinely pleasant. Nothing will interfere with your plans.

Except the numbers. July is when Ubud fills. The Campuhan ridge has a steady line on it by seven, Tegalalang has a car park queue by mid morning, and the restaurants you read about need booking days in advance. Prices are at or near their annual peak. You are paying the most for the most certain weather, which is a fair trade if your dates are fixed and a poor one if they are not.

July

Week 1

day by day

One base in Ubud, and start every day early. In July the difference between leaving at seven and leaving at nine is the difference between a good day and a queue.

  • Day 1: Arrive, settle, eat. Book anything you care about for later in the week tonight.

  • Day 2: Temples, starting at opening. Tirta Empul by seven is a different place from Tirta Empul at ten.

  • Day 3: Campuhan Ridge Walk at first light. Genuinely first light, not eight.

  • Day 4: Tegalalang at opening, then the craft villages at Mas, which stay quiet all day.

  • Day 5: Waterfall day, at opening again. The car parks are full by ten in July.

  • Day 6: Deliberately unbooked. Museum, spa, long lunch, hotel pool.

  • Day 7: Slow morning, then the airport with real margin. July traffic south is heavy.

July needs booking months ahead, not days

Book the room now if your dates are anywhere near July, because peak-season availability in Ubud disappears months out and the properties that remain are rarely the ones you wanted. Activities need the same treatment, since guided walks, workshops and small-group tours fill weeks ahead. A car with a driver is worth more in July than any other month, because a driver who knows which site to hit first is the difference between seeing Tegalalang and queueing for it. Three links below.

frequently asked questions

What is the weather like in Bali in July?

The most reliable of the year. July is peak dry season, so rain is rare, humidity is low and skies are clear. Coastal temperatures sit around 27 to 31 degrees, with cool evenings inland and genuinely cold nights at altitude. The dry-season wind is strongest on the south and west coasts during July and August.

How far in advance should you book Bali for July?

Two to three months for accommodation, particularly for well-located or popular hotels, and several weeks for anything with limited capacity such as guided treks, cooking classes and small-group tours. July is peak season and the good options go first. Restaurants in Ubud and Seminyak want a booking rather than a walk-in.

Is Ubud too crowded in July?

It is busy, but manageable if you shift your timing. The crowd concentrates between mid morning and late afternoon, so starting at opening gives you the main sites in relative quiet. Tegalalang, the Campuhan ridge and the popular waterfalls are the pressure points. The craft villages, museums and the market are far less affected.
