Intimate South Asian restaurant serving fusion food in Ubud

Found at the end of Jalan Arjuna’s winding alleyways, Juna restaurant has preserved a pocket of verdant hillside right in the centre of Ubud. The intimate, al-fresco restaurant invites guests to savour a unique fusion of Thai and Indian flavours, taking in the views of a lush rice terrace.

Juna Ubud sits cosily on its private hilltop, its natural design blending into the surrounding greenery, with its all-bamboo structure and open-air terrace blurring the boundaries of indoor and outdoor. Accessed from the centre of Ubud through the car-less street of Jalan Arjuna, it is a gem.

When it comes to food, Juna strays from the mainstream with a new fusion of flavours, serving an aromatic menu of South Asian dishes. Rishi Arora channels the cuisines of his two homes to create something new, merging Thai and Indian influences. Try the Burrata Chaat and Coco Crudo.

Make JUNA Ubud the anchor of your Ubud days

JUNA Ubud sits in Ubud, so start with hotel prices and pick a base from the walkable centre to the quiet valleys at Sayan. Then look at activity packages, since the temple circuits, a rice-terrace walk and a cooking or yoga class are easy to add to the trip. Finally, price a car: the sights are spread across the valley, so one driver for the day beats separate tours. The three links below go straight to each.

Getting there is part of it. JUNA sits at the end of Jalan Arjuna's alleyways on a pocket of hillside that somehow survived in the middle of Ubud, so you arrive having walked rather than parked.

The cooking is a fusion that mostly works, with the burrata chaat and the coco crudo as the dishes to judge it on. It is al-fresco and small, which makes it a booking rather than a drop-in. We would go before dark while the hillside is still visible, because that is half of what you are paying for.
