Vibrant Indonesian bar and grill restaurant set in Canggu
Bringing the vibrant spirit of Jakarta to Bali, the newly opened IBU KOTA in Canggu is the latest talk of the town. Guests can expect tantalising grilled seafood, bold local flavours, great music, and unmistakable city energy – all wrapped in genuine hospitality. It’s proudly Indonesian.
Born from a dynamic collaboration between The Cakap Group and PT Dewata Rasa, IBU KOTA’s concept and design were driven by The Cakap Group’s Director, Peter Jozef. The name IBU KOTA, meaning “capital city”, pays homage to Jakarta. It is also a nod to the word Ibu, meaning “mother”.
At the heart of the venue is the food, celebrating traditional recipes and bold local flavours with a modern twist. Designed to be shared, the menu features highlights such as Classic Beef Rendang, slow-cooked to tender perfection, and Bamboo Lobster with Signature Marinade.

Build a Canggu day around IBU KOTA
IBU KOTA sits in Canggu, so start with hotel prices and pick a base near Batu Bolong or Berawa. Then look at activity packages, since a surf lesson and the short trip to Tanah Lot are easy to add to the trip. Finally, price a car: Canggu is more spread out than it looks and the lanes clog through the day. The three links below go straight to each.
A Jakarta restaurant transplanted to Canggu, which mostly means bolder seasoning and more noise than the area's cafes. IBU KOTA runs over two floors with live music most nights.
Grilled seafood is the strength, with the bamboo lobster and a classic beef rendang as the orders to build a table around. It is loud by design, so this is a group dinner rather than a quiet one. We would go for the seafood and stay for the music, and pick somewhere else if you want to hear the person across the table.
